Let’s Describe Animals in the Savannah!
Hello and welcome!
Today, we’re starting a new series of vocabulary lessons about nature.
First, you’ll learn how to describe animals in the savannah.
REMEMBER: The other spelling of the word ‘savannah’ is ‘savanna‘ (with no ‘h’ at the end.)

Describe Animals in the Savannah: Examples
- I go to the zoo at least once a year and I get to see different types of animals from Africa. I love baboons because they are funny and they interact with people too. However, I’m scared of crocodiles.
- The only time I saw a lion was in a zoo. I should say that he was quite impressive.
- It is rare to see giraffes in zoos but I was lucky to see one when I visited Wroclaw. I mean its zoo of course!
- I really like watching gorillas play in the zoo. They look very friendly and they sometimes mimic our gestures.
- Two years ago, I went to Kenya and I made sure to go on a safari trip because I wanted to see the Big Five. In fact, these are the five biggest and most dangerous animals in the African savannah: the lion, the rhinoceros, the Cape buffalo, the elephant and the leopard.
We can also use the above Adjectives to describe animals in the savannah.
Let’s look at a few examples:
- Baboons are funny animals. They often behave like human beings.
- Elephants are huge and they can weigh up to 7,000 kgs.
- Lions are not aggressive all the time.
- Zebras are beautiful and their stripes make them stand out.
- Giraffes are really unique animals. They are so tall and they tower above all animals in the savannah.
- It is not rare to find thirsty and ferocious crocodiles lying in the sun near water sources in the savannah.
- It is a well-known fact that hyenas are greedy scavengers. Besides, they like eating carcasses and left-over meat belonging to other animals.
- Cheetahs are very fast and powerful. In fact, the cheetah is known to be the fastest land animal.
Your Turn: Make at least 5 sentences to describe animals in the savannah using the Adjectives in the picture above.
