This is the fifth lesson in the nature vocabulary series.

Today, you are going to learn how to describe pets and other domestic animals.

First of all, do you have a pet? What is its name? Is it a dog or a cat? Maybe a hamster?

Secondly, if you don’t have a pet, would you like to have one? What would it be?

Thirdly, what is your favourite domestic animal? A cow? A goat? Perhaps you like sheep?

Lastly, what do you think about pets and other domestic animals? Do you think that they are…

Describe Pets and Other Domestic Animals: Examples
  • Chickens are surprising because they always find their way home even if they have been wandering in the neighbourhood the whole day!
  • Dogs are loyal animals. No wonder they are called man’s best friend!
  • I am scared of cats because they always look like they are going to attack you.
  • Horses are very elegant animals. I would like to be able to ride a horse one day.
  • It’s easy to keep goldfish at home. Besides they are very beautiful and entertaining.
  • Kids like having hamsters because they are very cute and friendly.
  • Camels and donkeys are beasts of burden because they are used to carry a lot of things for their masters.
  • Cows, ducks and goats are domestic animals that can be a source of food for the whole family.
  • Sheep provide wool and meat to the household.

We can also use the above Adjectives to describe pets and other domestic animals.

Let’s look at a few examples:
  • Rabbits are cute, cuddly and furry. I think they are also fun to play with!
  • Cats are adorable but sometimes they do no act friendly with their masters.
  • Camels carry heavy burdens because they are strong and obedient.
  • I have a dog. He is really beautiful and well-behaved. His name is Doggie.
  • It’s important to treat domestic animals well. They are useful to us and they can be entertaining at times.
  • Pets such as cats and dogs can be demanding. However, if they are not spoiled, aggressive or very naughty, they can be quite amazing for children and adults alike.
  • Donkeys are stoic animals even though they are often considered to be stubborn.
  • Some people think that pigs are dirty animals. I think that they can look pretty and clean, if they want to!
  • Guinea pigs and hamsters are very energetic animals.

Your Turn: Make at least sentences to describe pets and other domestic animals using the Adjectives in the picture above.
