Beginner Short Story with Vocabulary for Describing Animals

King Lion was a happy beast.????He had a gorgeous wife. Her name was Queen Lioness but she loved to be called Queen Li. She made a lovely couple with her husband. Together, they had six chubby cubs that were the envy of many animals in the kingdom.

One sunny day, King Lion called Queen Li.

“My dear wife, I would like to celebrate our happiness with all the animals in the kingdom. I want to organise a party for them.”

“That’s an excellent idea! When do you want to have this party?”

“I don’t know yet. I need to find enough food for everyone. You also have to find a nice place with enough water for all of us. This party could last for days and I don’t want anyone to starve or die from thirst.”

“Don’t worry. I know a freshwater stream not far from here. The water is very cool and there is enough shade for all of us. There is also a lot of thick grass there. Herbivores and omnivores will love it. Everyone should have fun on that day, even carnivores like us. Our party is going to be the best that the kingdom has ever had.”????????

King Lion agreed with his wife. Everyone was going to remember their party, even days after it was over thanks to the hosts’ excellent organisational skills.

Well, it was time to start the preparations.

King Lion was in charge of hunting food for carnivores. He asked for help from some of his friends: a handsome and muscular leopard ????, a strong cheetah and an enormous rhinoceros. They left at sunset and by dawn, they had enough food to last for a week.

Queen Lioness asked for help from a stunning female rhinoceros, a well-built she-cheetah and a powerful leopardess. A tall and resourceful giraffe offered her help but Queen Li declined it. She thought that the giraffe wouldn’t be able to keep up with the rest of the team.

The organisers found a lovely place and they decorated it with a lot of flowers. They also prepared sleeping places for tired mothers and their children and they made sure that there were enough leaves and grass for vegans and vegeterians.????????

The females were also responsible for sending the invitations. They made sure that only well-behaved animals came to the party. Certainly, they didn’t want fights and violent behaviour during the feast.

Therefore, hyenas and vultures were forbidden to come to the party, of course, because of their uncomely selfish behaviour! However, Queen Li felt sorry for them because she thought that it was not their fault that they were like that.

“They should stay away from our party. If they come, everything will be a mess,” King Lion warned his wife sternly.

Queen Li ended up accepting her husband’s opinion. Hence, all scavengers were not allowed to attend the party. Even human beings were forbidden to attend the party considering their notorious history of hunting animals in the savannah for food or pleasure.

On top of that, other reptiles such as poisonous snakes and pythons were told to stay at home in case they scared the kids away.????

Who came to the feast then?

Well, many animals in the savannah attended the much awaited party.

First of all, the huge elephant came with his wife, a female elephant who was also called a cow! Imagine an elephant being married to a cow! Secondly, antelopes, impalas and gazelles were also among the guests. At first, these juicy yet helpless animals didn’t want to go to the party because they were afraid of the many carnivores that would also be  at the party. However, Queen Li reassured them that there was enough food already so they wouldn’t be killed by famished leopards or cheetahs.????

Thirdly, friendly baboons and ostriches were also invited and they  performed a funny play for the other guests. The performance was so hilarious that the other animals couldn’t stop laughing for hours on end.

Lastly, the fierce crocodile and his wife also came to the party but they were tired so they went back home early to rest. They ate a lot of food though!????????

All in all, the party was a huge success! All the animals, except the scavengers and some reptiles (for obvious reasons), were happy and their king was even happier.

As a matter of fact, King Lion promised all the guests that he would organise a huge party every year to commemorate this day.

The ecstatic animals shouted ‘hooray!’ and fought to hug their beloved king and queen.

Surely, they would come to the following year’s party. They just couldn’t wait!

What about you? Would you go to the party if you were invited by King Lion and Queen Lioness?????
