This week, we are going to be talking about different types of jobs to celebrate the International Workers’ Day which falls on May 1st each year.

Programme:

MONDAY: English Vocabulary: Different Types of Jobs (Lesson 1-Jobs and Career Fields)

WEDNESDAY: English Vocabulary: Different Types of Jobs (Lesson 3: Dialogue with Different Examples of Jobs)

THURSDAY: English Vocabulary: Different Types of Jobs (Lesson 4-Describe your Future Job)

FRIDAY: English Vocabulary: Different Types of Jobs (Lesson 5: How to write a dialogue)

CHALLENGE: By the end of the week, you will be able to write a dialogue of at least 10 lines in which the characters talk about different types of jobs and career fields.

STEP 1: Introduction

Definition of a Job: A job is an activity that you do regularly in exchange for a payment or a salary.

E.g. I have a full-time job.

Words that are related to ‘JOB’

  • Occupation (Noun): A regular activity done to earn money or to pass time.

E.g. I am looking for a paid occupation.

  • Profession (Noun): A paid occupation needing special training and skills.

E.g. He is a doctor by profession.

  • Employment (Noun): The fact of having a paid job or work.

E.g. I am looking for employment.

  • Work (Verb): To do a job in order to earn wages or a salary.

E.g. I work as a journalist for a newspaper.

  • Career (Noun): A job or series of jobs that you do over a long period of time.
  • E.g. He has had an interesting business and political career.
